We had Daren's dad here for Halloween this year. We had a great time trick-or-treating. The twins were really in to it. It was kind of windy but the kids didn't even want there coats for over an hour. So sad Halloween has already come and gone.

Trip to St. George

We wanted to go visit Grammie and Grandpa and these were some of the pictures we took of the fun stuff we did. We ran into Zach and Mary Williams who don't even live there and we were able to visit with Kristen Heiner and her kids and Daren went golfing with Brett. On our last day there we were also able to see Ryan and Nona Durham and their 3 girls. On our way home we were able to see Alyson and her two boys. So much fun! We crammed a lot in to the few days we were there. The kids had a good time and my parents were good sports to put up with all of us. We had a great time!

This post is for all our Omaha friends. We don't miss the freezing temps you are having now but we do miss all our friends and the fun stuff to do. This is an old pic but I am catching up. I took the kids to the Zoo here in Boise. You can see everything in a couple of hours. I took this after we were done and you can probably tell by the look on their faces they were not impressed. We miss you Henry Doorly.

Church dress

I cannnot keep clothes on the kids even now that it is winter. Jude doesn't want to wear any and Lily just wants to have a shirt on inside out and backwards with mismatched socks and pants on backwards. This is pretty much their uniform everyday. Like I said before, I like to take pictures of them on Sunday because they are definitely dressed and they actually match and look mostly presentable. Lily had to make a quick call before heading out to the car.

A friend of mine whose anniversary is a couple of weeks before mine reminded me that ours was coming up. It took me by surprise and when she asked how many years it had been I said,"Oh like 11 or so." Then I actually counted and realized it had been 14. Time flies when you are having fun they say. This was just a shot taken by our waitress. Daren surprised me with reservations to a nice new restaurant and tickets to a play. I told Daren that was the present I had been waiting for for 14 years. For him to plan something as a surprise ahead of time. Well worth the wait. It was the best present.

We went panning for gold up by Pine and Featherville. The kids had a blast. Jude even looks like he knows what he is doing. Fun trip.

We had so many problems with the twins and beds that we figured if we gave them a King sized mattress that weighed more than them they wouldn't be able to move it or hurt themselves with it. They LOVE it!

4th of July

We went to a place called Garden Valley to see the fireworks. It was in a very beautiful valley and we had front row seats which in retrospect was probably too close. The kids had fun beforehand but the fireworks were too much for all of them. We had a nice picnic lunch when we weren't trying to keep the twins out of the porta potties or other people's fireworks. The little animals on their backs are leashes we have started using but we had taken the strap off for good behavior. It is hard to keep an eye on those two at the same time.

Lily's hair is in transition as her bangs grow out. They are always in her face so I was thrilled when her new obsession became hats. Of course Jude had to join in the fun.

Jude and Lily's Second bday

We took the kids to Red Robin for their bday and they wouldn't eat anything but the chips I brought from home. We went to the pool and then naps, presents and cake. They didn't really get into the cake thing til I gave them forks. How polite they are. It was fun and we are so glad to have made it to two. Now if we can only make it to three.

Cherry Festival

Well we went to the Cherry Festival in Emmett and because of the weather there weren't really any cherries yet but we had fun anyway. We had fry bread for the first time since living in AZ over 6 years ago and the kids enjoyed the petting zoo. I also got a henna tattoo which I have wanted for years. Fun Fun Fun!

Swimming is fun

The next day we went back to the pool in swim suits and had a blast. I really love the pool here. It has a beach entrance so the kids can just walk in.

We went to the park and the kids love the slides. We didn't intend on going to the pool but it is right next to the park and so we were just going to put our feet in. Jude made some cute footprints on the sidewalk. I had to capture the memory.

My Peony Garden

I didn't even know what a Peony looked like really and then when we moved here there was one plant in front that got one flower and I thought it was so pretty. Daren ended up buying 3 more and this year we had 10-15 flowers. I just love them and I love spring. This post is was late but better than never. Here is Jude on the swing at our Uncle Lloyd's house. He had a great playground for the kids in his backyard but unfortunately the kids weren't really feeling up to it. Jude threw up the whole day before we left and then Lily threw up the whole car ride there and then Aspen threw up the whole second night we were there. I got sick the last day and was sick for the week after we got home. It was fun to see family and we were sorry we could not go to the farewell we came for. A special thanks to Uncle Lloyd for letting us stay with him. Thanks to Mom and Dad for helping with the kids. Unfortunately under the circumstances this is the only good picture I got for the whole weekend. What a missed opportunity to get picutes with family. Next time I guess.

The babies are crawling out of their beds so I put the mattresses on the floor. They had fun but when I went in to check them they had stripped the mattresses bare. Sleeping on a plastic mattress doesn't sound fun to me so we put them back in their beds. They can climb out but they don't until morning. At least for now.

So I left a bunch of clothes in the hall right outside Jude and Lily's door. They were all girl clothes that I had gotten out of the garage that were the next season hoping some would fit Lily. Well, I guess Jude decided they were for him and proceeded to try them all on all at once. He tried several outfits before finding the perfect one. He even consulted his stylist. The kids really enjoyed searching for eggs. It was so fun to see that they actually understood what to do. They didn't need any help. We had some friends over and our kids were "egg hogs". They took more that the other kids and they were 3 and 5 years old. When our kids know what they want, they go after it.

Finally, it's a boy and a girl again

After months of begging and pleading Daren agreed to let me cut Jude's hair. I finally found someone I like both for my hair and for the kids. I was so excited to see Jude looking more like a boy and Lily getting the hair out of her eyes. We tried to have an homage to Jude's long hair last night. We tried to do a mohawk and instead it was all kinds of interesting. I love love love how their hair both turned out. They are cute as buttons and people can finally stop telling me how cute my "girls" are.

I am exhausted

I had no idea what having a toddler really meant, much less having two of them. Aspen was so calm and limited in her ablities that she wasn't able to do or get into half of the stuff the twins are doing. Jude mostly is the instigator, hence why almost all of the pictures are of him but do not sell Lily short. She is right behind and boy is she a climber. My favorite time of day is 7:30 pm. Bedtime is bliss. I am an emotional wreck, afraid someone is going to end up in the ER everyday.
I am worn to a frazzle by the end of every day but I love them to death and look forward to doing it all over again the next day.

Traditions

I am hoping to start a new tradition of PJs on Christmas Eve. I had to go to 5 different stores. Aspen needed ones with feet and that is hard to find them that big. Lily needed all cotton due to skin sensitivities. I don't want to do Christmasy (sp?) PJs because I think it looks weird to have Santa on your PJs in February. Anyway, the above picture is of this year's collection taken on Christmas Eve. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

Halloween 2009

This Halloween was pretty fun. The kids were not super into Trick or Treating but they played along. The weather was pretty good. The twins were chickens and they kept warm in their fuzzy costumes. Aspen was a Shabby Princess. She actually wore the headband for awhile. I had like four shirts on her to keep her warm. Next year I will try to be more creative and make costumes. I had a vision of what I wanted my pictures to look like, how they would smile and look at the camera and all that good stuff. I think it is the age but they didn't want to cooperate in the least. I couldn't get all three of them to look or smile to save my life so this is the best I could do.

I can't believe I am old enough to have a 9 year old. Aspen had a great birthday! She had a party in her homeroom class on Fri. and then her party on Sat. and then a party in her resource class on her real birthday on Mon. We are so glad she has so many nice friends. I think the whole thing was a waste and I should have just done it myself except that I was worried I would make a huge mistake and have to take her anyway. These guys went from crawling to walking to running in a matter of weeks it seemed. They are big kids now. Lily can say all done, uh oh and has 16 teeth. Jude is into everything and has superhuman strength. They keep me on my toes.

Air Crew

It looks like these guys are ready to work on an air strip. We got these head phone things for Aspen so she can use them to block out noise when it gets too loud for her. We are also hoping if she learns to wear these she will begin to like wearing headphones for an MP3 player. Right now that freaks her out but she loves music so it would be great if she could get over her fear of having something over her ears. As you can tell she isn't too thrilled with these either but this was the first day. She has since worn them for 5 min. straight. That is improvement at least. The babies like them more that she does. Maybe that will motivate Aspen.

Fall Harvest

I had to bring in all my tomatoes to avoid them all freezing and they are actually ripening. I guess I will be making a big batch of salsa. These carrots are way to gnarly for me. I did cut them up and use them in soup. They tasted fine but they look so scary I don't think I will plant them next year. I really enjoyed having a garden this year. I grew raspberries, strawberries, carrots, lettuce, spinach, zuchinni, corn and tomatoes. I dried my cornstalk and am going to use them by the front door to decorate with pumkins and hay for Halloween.

A big milestone

Aspen is finally learning to put on her own shoes. She does really well with these but now that it is getting colder we will see how tennis shoes go. Thank goodness for velcro.

Jude is back

Finally my son is a boy again. I have begged Daren to let me cut Jude's hair for a couple of months. He was very firm. That is when I threatened him with the dress and bow. It didn't matter to him. He did not want me to cut it. Finally I said, "I am making an appointment and that is that." Daren finally agreed the time had come. All that drama and I think the lady only took 1/2 inch off. I wanted to buzz the back and sides and spike the top but maybe in a cut or two we can go drastic. My husband and mom might have disowned me if I would have done that today. I think we are just afraid he won't be a baby anymore. He is growing up. What a sweety!

I was so excited and so sad all at the same time. We were headed to a place called Ocean Shores in Washington when we went to Daren's family reunion. On the way I saw this sign. I was so excited. I thought we were really close and we were. Only about 30 miles away was Forks. We were headed for the beach though and were caravaning with family. Otherwise I so would have made Daren take me there. So close yet so far away. Bummer.

Daren had been bugging me to get another dog for over a year. I finally caved and I don't know what I was thinking. It has caused all kinds of drama. He still isn't potty trained. He is on probation. If he can't behave we will have to find him a new home. We have had him for a couple months now so we will see how the next little while goes. His name is Einstein and he is 6 mon. old.

Fourth Family Fun

We skipped the official fireworks this year. Nothing can compare to Omaha. I think it will all be anticlimactic from here on out. We didn't even do sparklers. I looked everywhere for them and I finally found them at one stand but the line was at least 20 min. long and there were 6 people waiting in the car for me. I guess I should be glad, then Daren can't try to make any sparkler bombs. What party poopers we were. The kids had a very bad day with lots of tears and every one went to be early. There is always next year. Hope you all had a great fourth.

I can't believe it has been a year already. I think the fun has just begun. Jude and Lily keep us on our toes. They are into everything. They eat more than most grown adults. They smile almost all the time. They love life and discovering new things. So far they are sweet to each other and do not fight or show jealousy. We will see how long that lasts. We love them and can't imagine life without them. Happy Birthday my babies.

I knew I didn't like strawberries for a reason...

Here are the firstfruits of our garden. I never really liked strawberries much but these were already here and they looked so pretty I had to eat them even if it was dipped in sugar. Well as they would ripen I would eat one or two a day. On Monday I came down with a serious case of hives. I took some benadryl and in the morning went to the dermatalogist. His conclusion was the same as mine. I am allergic to strawberries. Well at least now I will have a good excuse not to have to eat them.

Idaho City Adventure

We were headed for Mcall and saw a turn for Idaho City, a place we hadn't been yet. We took the turn and then were on dirt roads for 37 miles. When we got to Idaho City I was pleasantly surprised. It is a very small town but ironically used to be the biggest city other than on the coasts due to a mining boom. They had some cute stores and museums. We had wanted to picnic but again it was raining. We ate in the car at a recreation area and wouldn't you know it it cleared up and the sun was out the rest of the day. Here are some nature shots I took along with a picture of a scary lizard. The first picture is funny. I was pushing Aspen. We were going along trying to catch up to Daren,Jude and Lily. I ran over something and after the lizard sighting I was a little nervous to look at what it was. Luckily it was just her shoe. I looked at her and both her shoes were missing. Luckily it was not too far back. It was like Hansel and Gretel's trail of bread crumbs.

Swinging at the Park

There is a really great park here called Settler's Park and they have a splash park and lots of play equipment, musical instruments and lots of swings. We love it. It is always crowded but we usually can find some shade. We are in the 70's this week so we are trying to take advantage of the great weather. Here are the kids on the swings. They all had a great time.

This was the trip we took on Memorial Day weekend to Hagerman and Bliss Idaho. We saw many interesting things including roadkill and this funny sign. We saw the pretty waterfall of 1000 Springs. We were in the storm with all the dust blowing from the farmers fields and ended up eating in the car instead of the picnic we had planned. Daren had picked up snacks at Walmart including spray cheese. I haven't had spray cheese in over a decade. That brings back memories and makes me feel old. It was an interesting trip to say the least but it was better than just sitting at home doing nothing. The kids were good but I am sure they were bored. You win some you lose some I guess.

A night out

Daren and I got to go on a date the other day (shocking I know) and we went to Joe's Crab Shack which neither of us had ever been to. The food was pretty good. They seated us and then forgot we were there so they gave Daren a free drink and me a free desert. Always love free stuff. Anywho, I saw this sign there and it just made me laugh. I am sure there are plenty your girls out there who may feel this way on occasion.

This is a perfect example of Jude and Lily's personalities. Lily is gunghoe and animated, everything by brut force. I fear I might have a tomboy on my hands.Jude is more methodical and observant. He takes longer to warm up to new things. It is so fun to see the differences between them.

The twins are all over the place. Lily is crawling and Jude is commando crawling and starting to pull up to stand. They are doing really well. We are so happy to have them in our home.

Aspen update

Aspen is feeling better and the swelling is down but she looks really scary. She looks a little posessed. This could last a few weeks and I hope she doesn't scare her classmates at church and school. I feel a little queasy when I look closely. Luckily it doesn't seem to bother her.

Aspen's Eye Surgery

Aspen had strabismus surgery on both eyes to hopefully help her look straight ahead instead of always having her head back and neck out. She did well for the surgery but had a hard first day of recovery. Now she is just really swollen but in good spirits. Here are some shots of her puffy eyes.

My new hobby...

I have started couponing. It is a daunting task but I try not to stress and realize that if I miss a good deal there will always be another one. I have tried to get organized and that really helps. I got all this stuff for $11 including tax. The infusium was $6 of the $11 so that is a great deal. A lot of it was free. I am learning the tricks of the trade. It has really helped with our grocery bill. Happy shopping everyone.

As you can see Lily is the boss already. Can't believe it has been 9 months already. They are so much fun and we are just grateful that they are healthy and happy.

There are still some foods Aspen can eat with us. Mexican is probably the best. As long as it is corn we are safe. Italian is probably the worst. We went to Zio's in Omaha and I felt bad because the only things on the entire menu she could have were Salad (yeah right) and soda. Talk about giving me a guilt complex. Now I travel with food 24/7 to avoid that situation from every happening again. Maybe we should have tosadas every night. They have all the food groups right?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to put on these shelves. They were here when we moved in and I like them they are just so narrow it is hard to know what to put on them besides pictures. I don't want to put all of these on here but wondered which ones people like? Obviously I would have to trim the flower stems but didn't want to yet if I wasn't keeping them. Any tips would be appreciated.

We don't eat out much with all 3 kids but we love Red Robin. It is always so loud there that no one would know if all 3 of our kids were screaming. Aspen loves the music. We had a coupon for a free burger so it was even cheap. As always the fries were a big hit. I love their fry sauce and they have a separate fryer just for fries so Aspen can even have them. Fun times! Jude's first balloon.

When we moved here I was pleasantly surprised that our ward had a card night. It works a little different than the one in Omaha. You come with all your cards made and then there is some time at the beginning to socialize and then you exchange cards and talk about how they were made, etc. Then there are treats and it is over in about 1.5-2 hours. Right now there are only 11 people in the group which is a really good size. I really enjoy it and look forward to hosting in Aug. Any suggestions on treats or door prizes? I forgot to mention they have a drawing for door prizes. I won a notepad this last time and I was so glad. I make lists for everything. If I don't write things down I don't remember them. Crawling

The babies are getting close to crawling finally! Or at least thinking about it. Jude can get on his knees up and is just barely learning to get the top half up. For quite awhile he just dug his head into the ground but a couple days ago Daren said he saw him with his head up. Lily has the bottom half up or the top half up but can't put them together yet. I am not in a rush. I am enjoying them still moving slowly. They roll around mostly still right now. I think all stages are fun and as much as I want them to stay babies it is fun to see them learn new stuff.

I guess people are really reading my blog. Thanks for keeping me motivated to keep posting. I know it is past Valentine's Day but I was proud of my Martha Stewart effort in making 38 of these for Aspen's two classes.

I promise that really is Jude in the girl carseat with the girl blanket. It is just too easy to use whatever is handy. Hopefully I won't warp him and his favorite color will be pink. I promise I have never dressed him in Lily's clothes.

A little at a time we are adding some welcoming touches. I got these lanterns for the front porch. Does anyone have any suggestions what I could put in them besides candles? I don't want to have to light them all the time. I am getting discouraged because no one is commenting on my blog and I have even been good about posting often. Is anyone out there?
